"I know how to play drums, and have a room to play them in. But how do I record myself?"

We know how overwhelming it is - there are SO MANY aspects to recording a set of drums that it can be difficult to even know where to start.

  • The sheer amount of gear available is mind-boggling. How do you know what to buy to build a recording rig?
  • You start recording in your own studio and it sounds good, but then you hear the drum tracks in the car. Suddenly, those same drums sound muddy and harsh.
  • You send your raw tracks to the client and they decide to replace you with EZ Drummer because the rough mix sounds so different from what they were anticipating.

That's where our one-to-one coaching comes in.

We’ve gone through every part of the process countless times over the past few decades, and are here to guide you to your goals in a streamlined way that will get you where you want to be - presenting the drum sound that you hear in your head to the world (and paying clients!).

"I don't know where to start - who can help?"

We can. Our drum recording coaching program consists of eight weekly video conferences with session drummer Dylan Wissing and producer/mix engineer Cooper Anderson. We've worked together since the 2000s, and know what it takes to build fully-functioning professional recording and mixing setups in rooms that were never designed to be recording studios.

By the end of our program, you will be confident that you can record your drums with whatever space and gear you have available. You’ll understand the techniques involved, know how to use your equipment, and how to get a good rough mix so that you can deliver well-recorded drum tracks to clients, other musicians, or the mix engineer.

Transform Your Session Drumming and Engineering Skills

We help drummers and producers build their own recording setup, then record and mix their own drum tracks so they can save money (and get paid!)

  • Build a recording setup and maximize your space for drum tracking, all within your budget

  • Have confidence that you are recording great-sounding, professional drum tracks

  • Learn how to properly mix your drums for clients, your own production, and social media

"I don’t have a multi-million dollar recording studio, a massive mixing board, or tons of analog outboard gear. Can I create professional recordings?"

We don't use that stuff either, and are working at a top level every day. We've used a LOT of gear over the decades, and have learned where to focus your finances for maximum benefit.

We'll help you find the right gear you need, on a real-world budget. And we'll help you "buy once and buy right" - building the setup that you can use for your entire recording career.

What Our Program Contains:

We bring our decades of experience to your studio, so you can get up and running fast.

  • Eight weekly video consultations with Cooper Anderson and Dylan Wissing

  • Technical assistance, gear guidance, recording and mixing instruction

  • Assignments and tutorials based on our own real-world experiences

We help you get the most from your recording setup

  • Room Acoustics

Unless your room was custom-designed as a recording studio, it probably has some acoustic issues. We can help you sort them out.

  • Drum Prep

Your drum sound starts at the source - choosing, tuning and prepping the right gear for the session is crucial. Let's optimize the gear you have.

  • Recording

What microphones do you need, and how many? Where do they go once you have them? What is phase, and how do you deal with it?

Mixing your tracks is crucial. We'll show you what to do

  • Session Prep

Mixing is a lot of fun, but it’s a lot more fun if you don’t have to stop and fix problems when you’re on a roll. Having a solid Session Prep routine is essential to keeping the creative flow going.

  • Mixing

A great mix can elevate a great song to the next level. An awful mix can destroy it. It’s important to learn and internalize the technical aspects of mixing to make creating fun and sound good.

  • File Delivery

Mixing for yourself is great, but it’s also lots of fun to collaborate and work with others. Having a file delivery system for this in place is essential for organization in your workflow.

"I'm a drummer, not a trained audio engineer. Can I learn how to record myself?"

Absolutely. Cooper is Berklee-trained. Dylan learned on the job. We both have numerous gold and platinum credits on our resumes, working as full-time professionals, yet each arriving from very different backgrounds. Expensive audio schooling is great, of course, but you don't need it to do this work!

Don't waste your time with endless random YouTube tutorials from influencers with questionable real-world experience. We will guide you in the right direction for what YOU need.

Here's what others have said about us:

“This is one of the biggest secret weapons that I've ever shown, ever in the history of my Twitch... Creating the Sound. This s**t is AMAZING.
(Twitch Stream, 2022)”

Kenny Beats (Ed Sheeran, T-Pain, Doja Cat)

“There are so many people offering their opinions and tutorials on drum recording these days that it really can become quite confusing. Creating The Sound made everything clear and concise for me.

Cooper and Dylan are tried and true professionals that are gracious enough to share their knowledge and I am here for it!”

Andrew Marsh (Chaka Khan, Brandford Marsalis, Esperanza Spalding)
